  • Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s Residential Withdrawal Management Service offers 17 beds for inpatient, non-medical withdrawal management. Clients aged 16 or older are provided have access to support throughout their withdrawal, including an interdisciplinary team, as well as both individual and group counselling.
  • No fee required – funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
  • Formal referral not required. Potential clients are invited to call the centre and inquire about whether there is a bed available for them as a self-referral.
  • While student placements are accepted, it is unclear whether or not Master's-level practicums for counselling psychology students are offered.
  • A short screening is done over the phone during the self-referral process. If a patient arrives at the centre in need of other medical help (physical or psychiatric) they are referred to RVH Emergency services. The Resident Withdrawal Management Service is wheelchair accessible..

  • Sans Souci Program for Transition and Recovery is an inpatient program at the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care that specializes in caring for patients with severe and persistent mental illness, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorders, affective and mood disorders, and other various disorders. The goal of the program is to help the patient gain the necessary skills needed to live independently in their chosen environment. Patients much be between the ages of 18 and 75.
  • Service is free.
  • Referrals are received by Waypoint’s Central Intake Office and reviewed by a team of physicians. Referrals can be made by acute care mental health services, community mental health services, or other tertiary mental health services. A consultation with the potential patient may be requested prior to intake.

  • The Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) is a service available for any individuals 16 years of age or older living in the Barrie, Collingwood, Orillia, Midland, and Penetang areas who are experiencing serious mental illness causing challenges that require long-term treatment and support. People living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and other serious mental illness are given priority.
    • Client-centred, recovery-focused
    • Utilizes a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, registered nurses, social workers, peer specialists, addiction specialists, occupational therapists, and mental health and addiction counsellors
    • Offers daily contact between team and clients, support for Aboriginal clients, individualized recover-focused treatment and goal planning, psychiatric treatment, crisis prevention/intervention/management, assistance in coping with daily living, employment, vocational, and recreational support, advocacy, health promotion, facilitation of referrals to other resources, and ongoing service

  • The Early Psychosis Program (EPI) is a service available to people between the ages of 14 and 35 in Barrie, Orillia, Midland, Penetanguishene, Innisfil, Angus, and Collingwood experiencing a first psychotic episode. Family support is also offered.

  • Central Ontario Psychology offers multiple services for adults, seniors, couples, adolescents, children, and families. Treatment is offered for a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, learning difficulties and disorders, attention disorders, Autism spectrum disorders, trauma, grief and loss, adjustment to life challenges and events, stress, relationship issues, smoking cessation, and spirituality.
    • Clinical assessment is offered by psychologists. This involves taking a clinical history of the client, reviewing the client’s records, consulting other professionals, and administering psychometric tools and assessments to identify issues. From there, a collaborative treatment plan is developed.
    • Psychoeducational assessment is offered for children struggling in school. This involves taking a developmental history of the child, review the child’s school records, consulting with the child’s teachers, doctors, and other professionals in the circle of care, behavioural observation, administration of psychometric measures, making recommendations based on the child’s needs and style of learning, and providing feedback to parents and teachers.
    • Psychotherapy is offered for clients. An integrative approach is used and includes cognitive-behavioural therapy, positive psychology, client-centred therapy, emotion-focused therapy, mindfulness techniques, dialectical behaviour therapy, schema therapy, interpersonal therapy, psychodynamic/attachment-focused therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprogramming (EMDR), narrative therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
    • Independent psychological evaluations are also offered.
  • Services typically cost $225 per hour, though fees are often able to be reduced. Services provided by a professional under supervision are often available at reduced cost.

  • The New Path Youth and Family Counselling Program is for children and youth up to 18 years of age and their families. This program aims to improve challenges and overall functioning in the areas of social, emotional, or behavioural challenges. The program lasts for up to 6 months and provides regular and consistent sessions focused on the needs and goals of the client. It involves an initial assessment period followed by individual, family, or group therapy.
